Never too old

"It looks very deep..", nvm I jumped in and tried to swim. Oh man, I can't really do the doggy style. Help...

"E, can you try to check out the depth?". "Is you feet touching ground?". "You sure, not deep?". "Ok, move 1 feet more, sure? Not deep?". I went in the water, after awhile, help...

Lifeguard: "Hello, you ok? Can you swim? You don't look fine".
Me: "I am ok, no worries".
Lifeguard: "No, you want a tube? Then you can swim".
Me: "Oh no, I know how to swim, nvm, I can do this".
Lifeguard: "Look, girl, I tell you, a tube is going to let you swim freely, and enjoy. Come on, take a tube, not expensive, I'll let you try, if it doesn't work out, I will take it back"...
Me: "Eh.....(lifeguard kept pursuading).... OK OK I'll take one"...

We went to a spring for BBQ and lots of swimming yesterday. I am not a very good swimmer, a pool swimmer, but I know I'll be ok if it's shallow. But my, this was at least >4m deep. I was petrified. I was grabbing onto my friends. But the kids were jumping and swimming without fear. I should be able to do it. I am not going to lose to them.

Anyway, little did I expect him to come back with this:

I argued "Oh man, this is a kid's tube, it is pink and has fishes!!". He won't give me a bigger tube, this is the perfect size. He forced it on me. Yes, it fitted me perfectly, right at my chest, maybe only 1-2 inches to move around, and..

I swam like a butterfly, with my friends cheering in the background. *grin* You are never too old to put on a pink tube with fishes.

Sick

Toasted, fried, whatever you call it, I was out-in-the-sun for the past week. All I want this weekend is lots of sleep and rest, no sunlight, no heat, no smell of sunblock on me.

I woke up this morning, with a heavy hangover (similar symptoms but not caused by alcohol). I couldn't bring myself up, and figured "I have a fever". Cold, hungry, I changed to a sweater, and cooked myself some congee and took a panadol.

After watching The Devil Wears Prada, and now As Good As It Gets, I am drenched in boredom. I am a flacky person, as much I want to stay at home, I am dying to go out. Does this happen to you? Or am I the insane one?

I was talking to some friends about how I want a change of environment, maybe a new job, maybe a new city, moving somewhere? Doing masters? Going for a 1-month break?

Oh, ya the coffee, it's my 1cup/week thing. The congee was too plain, I needed some sugar and caffeine.

What's on my mind? What am I thinking? Is this because of the fever? The high temperature? Too much sleep? Lack of exercise?

OR maybe, is this what they call - mid-life crisis??? *gee*...

Coffee or Tea

Everytime I have a facial, I get complained that my skin is dehydrated. Then, tonnes of questions "did you apply the hydration mask?", "are you stressed up?", "are you drinking a lot of coffee?", "sleeping late?"...

So, I've decided to do something about it. 1) drink lots of water, 2) sleep early, 3) cut-off coffee (reduce)..so I need to substitute coffee with something - tea! I am currently hooked on these flavoured tea....are they better than coffee?

I like Rosehip Peach the best, it leaves a sweet aftertaste, and the smell overwhelmes the entire cubicle. Rooibos with Cinnamon and Vanilla is good too. If you have hard time sleeping, try camomile..it's soothing.

These little pyramid tea bags are just adorable, the blue is tea with papaya infusion, a bit weird. The green bags are tea with citrus fruits, a bit sourish to the tongue.

Strangely these tea are not bitter, but sweet, so I opened and found tiny rock sugar in each bag, that explains it.

Am I over coffee now? I don't know but I am at 1 cup/week - I guess that's a soft yes :)

What I did last June....

Flight will be delayed for 2 hours, I will touchdown in London late. I opened my laptop and double checked the operating hours of Heaththrow Express to Paddington, dropped a quick mail to the B&B to make sure Chris (Owner) is there for my check-in. I was an anxious solo traveller :S.

It was a mere 15mins from Heathrow airport to Paddington tube station. Took me quite awhile to find Rhodes Hotel, glad the neighbourhood was safe and helpful. Also very blessed given a twin room instead of single room I booked, much much more comfortable and bigger. It was a strictly safety first choice, next was cleanliness and service. It costs about 50GBP/night, not really cheap, but this B&B is rated very good in TripAdvisor. The owner was really friendly and personal. At least he noticed when I missed breakfast and knew me by name.

It's bad when your international roaming failed to work, you are out of touch with the world. I managed to get my mum to topup, (thanks to VOIP). In just 30mins I walked to the tube, got an Osyter Card, hopped on to Baker Street and met Lynette. The good thing being in an English speaking city, :), you get around fast!

The 1st stop was to Sherlock Holmes Museum, Buckingham palace to see the changing of the guards, a short walk past Horse Guards Parade. We had lunch in a park with sandwiches from Tesco Express. My BLT was really good, ~2GBP and a drink. Cheap lunch..

Next we went to Trafalgar Square, there were some blocked areas for a food event, but it was still alright. Opposite the Trafalgar Square was the Nelson Column & National Gallery. Then we continued to see the London Eye, Westminister Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral. Next stop was the Tower of London, after taking some pictures of the Tower bridge, we sat across the bridge, looking across the city view. It was very beautiful.

Lynette said every tourist needs to go Covent Garden, and we went. It was a nice place, lots of little stall, like a flea market.

This is Portobello Market, it only opens on Saturdays, a huge market selling fruits, fresh produce, antics, clothes. I bought 2 kilos of the best cherries I've ever tasted.

Prince Albert Memorial, it looked so grand. We stumbled upon this unplanned. :)

A quick picture of Royal Albert House. Sigh. A short 2.5 days stop. Everything was quite a rush. But it was a great trip. I loved London, looking forward to go back again!

Blood:Water Mission

I was looking through my cd collection, and found, "jar's of clay who we are instead". I sometimes forget how great this band is, and today, as I was reading the lyrics, I noticed this little note at the last page of the CD :

Blood:Water Mission is a non-profit organization founded by Jars of Clay, to raise awareness and create vital avenues for action in the fight to help the growing millions of brothers and sisters affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa.

Blood:Water Mission exists to promote clean blood and clean water efforts in Africa, tangibly reducing the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic while addressing the underlying issues of poverty, injustice and oppression. Blood:Water Mission is building clean water wells, supporting medical facilities, and focusing on community and worldview transformation, both here in America and in Africa.

This also reminded me of Ps Rick in CCC who likes to tell us the story of a little boy who started collecting funds to dig clean water wells in Africa.

Your $1 can help. :) So if you are interested to help, please join in the journey here.

Pangea Day

Pangea Day is a global event bringing the world together through film.
Why? In a world where people are often divided by borders, difference, and conflict, it's easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome that – to help people see themselves in others – through the power of film.

There are some interesting films, from around the world and we are all unique in our own ways, go watch!
